Material Selection forms an inseparable part of the Mechanical Engineering Design process. Suggesting a suitable material for a particular application, that can withstand the stresses. The failure behaviors of the material due to various types of loads are practically observed in the lab. Materials are tested for various strength like yield strength, ultimate compressive strength, impact strength, torsional strength and fatigue strength etc.
